Acquisitions and Dispositions
The attorneys in our Real Estate Practice Group have handled virtually every type of acquisition and disposition transaction, from single-asset deals to multijurisdictional and portfolio transactions. We have helped clients buy and sell high-rise office towers and suburban office parks, strip shopping centers and regional malls, golf course and other recreational facilities, assisted living and nursing care facilities, industrial buildings and complexes, and hotels and resort facilities, to name a few.

Our Acquisitions and Dispositions Group includes over 40 experienced real estate attorneys, able to handle any acquisition, sale or financing assignment in a personal, efficient, timely and cost-effective manner. We strive to assign a team specifically tailored to each client representation in order to provide experience, continuity and personalized service and to ensure familiarity and consistency among transactions. The size and combined experience of our group means there is virtually no acquisition, financing or sale issue that we have not encountered, negotiated and resolved.

We know purchaser and seller agendas, and how to negotiate balanced transaction documents while protecting the interests of our clients. We possess property-specific market knowledge and legal wherewithal for every asset type, including central city/high rise, commercial office, retail and shopping center, multifamily, hotel and resort, health care, manufacturing, special use, development land and brownfields. We have a national practice and routinely work on multistate and multiple property transactions, so we are able to assist our clients wherever their business takes them, no matter what the complexity of their goals. For any transaction requiring financing, we understand lender requirements and take a practical approach to negotiating loan documents and satisfying lender’s conditions.

Recent representative transactions:

  • Representing a large national REIT in connection with its acquisition of a portfolio of eight multifamily and retail buildings in Berkeley, California.

  • The multistate sale of approximately 1,000 gas stations, convenience stores, truck terminals and related facilities.

  • The portfolio sale of more than 4 million square feet of manufacturing, office and service center space, located in 17 states and Canada, with accompanying leaseback.

  • Acquiring an industrial building complex (approximately 1.1 million SF) in Indianapolis, Indiana.

  • The sale of the former Olympia brewery in Tumwater, Washington (approximately 200 acres and including 30 buildings), together with surface and subsurface water rights.

  • Acquiring and developing a university campus site for a multidiscipline research facility.
