Professional Experience
Ann E. Rabe is a member of the Firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. Her practice focuses on advising clients on business and licensing strategies regarding intellectual property, including the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and international patent applications in the chemical, biochemical and pharmaceutical arts, counseling and preparing opinions in patent matters, and performing intellectual property evaluations, audits and due diligence reviews as well as negotiating and drafting contracts and licenses for complex intellectual property transactions.

Ms. Rabe has extensive experience in patent law including patent landscape analysis, designing suitable filing strategies, drafting and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications and supervising foreign patent counsel. Her experience also includes providing opinions pertaining to patentability, infringement, validity and advising clients on freedom to operate issues. Ms. Rabe also advises clients on business and licensing strategies related to intellectual property, including information and technology issues.

Ms. Rabe also counsels clients regarding the sale and licensing of intellectual property, as well as negotiating and drafting contracts and licenses for complex intellectual property transactions, including exclusive patent license agreements for current and future technologies; patent licenses and know-how agreements for large technology transfer offices of public universities; material transfer agreements involving biological and chemical materials including stem cells and proteins; multi-million dollar software licensing, development and services contracts; sponsored research agreements; inter-institutional agreements between research institutions involving collaborative research and development programs; consumer and medical records disclosure agreements; and copyright and trademark license agreements.

Ms. Rabe has drafted and prosecuted patent applications on chemical polymers and films; small molecule chemical synthesis and purification; diagnostic assays; animal feeds and supplements; renewable fuels; organic photovoltaic devices; adhesive labels; nucleic acid and protein detection devices and methods; methods of producing and diversifying chemical libraries; secondary metabolite engineering to obtain novel anti-bacterial and anti-cancer agents; drug screening methods; protein and carbohydrate purification and analysis; recombinant DNA technologies; drug delivery devices and methods; and genetically engineered bacteria, animals and plants.
