The members of the
Madison office would like to point out that
Madison is the
capital of Wisconsin for a reason, it is a wonderful city. The
Madison office takes pride in its people and location. Madison was named the #1 city for young adults by Kiplinger in 2012.
The members of the Madison office have interesting and diverse practices. We advise clients in areas from biotech to trusts and estates. Moreover, with the resources of a national Firm, if there is a practice area that is not currently represented in the office, chances are other lawyers in one of our other offices are involved in that practice area. Our practice in Madison has diversified significantly over the years to reflect the growth of the
Madison metropolitan area, which is now home to more than a quarter million people and is one of Wisconsin's fastest growing regions.
The
Madison office is on the isthmus between
Lake Mendota and Lake Monona, across the street from the
State Capitol Building and a short walk from the
Monona Terrace Convention Center inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Madison is home to the main campus of the
University of Wisconsin, one of the nation's best universities. The
UW Badgers football team and basketball teams are perennial contenders in the Big Ten Conference and are each ranked nationally each year.
Madison offers natural beauty, including the
Arboretum and four glacial lakes.
Madison also offers a broad range of cultural and entertainment opportunities usually found only in much larger cities.
Madison is
diverse. With the fastest growing population being Asian and African American, its minority population is more than 16 percent. At the University of Wisconsin alone, there are over 4,000 foreign students that represent over 126 countries.
Madison consistently ranks among the top cities in the country for its diversity and quality of life. It has over 120
neighborhood associations. Recent recognition includes: One of the 50 Fabulous Gay-Friendly Places to Live ( 50 Fabulous Gay-Friendly Places to Live, Gregory A. Compes), One of the 10 Best Places to Live the Athletic Life (geezerJock, Fall, 2005), Ranked in the top 50 out of 100 for Business and Careers (Forbes, May 2009).
Madison was also deemed 35 "on campus scenes that rock” by Rolling Stone magazine in 2003, which definitely makes
Madison the “Hip” Office.
Arts & Entertainment
Don’t even think about grouping
Madison with all of those other “medium-sized Midwestern cities”—you’ll be surprised with how much
Madison has to offer. Madison’s commitment to the arts is evidenced by our venues and the caliber of performances available in Madison. The
Overture Center is a great example of the exciting developments in the
Madison arts community—Overture Center is a brand new multimillion dollar community-funded arts venue dedicated to bringing top notch acts to our fair city. Additionally,
Madison boasts the
Madison Repertory Theater,
Madison Opera and
Madison Symphony, all of which carry a legacy of artistic brilliance.
The
Kohl Center university sports arena garners a great deal of attention for watching basketball, hockey, and other exciting entertainment events.
Not into all that “fancy schmancy” stuff? No worries.
Madison has no shortage of taverns, clubs and community organizations that feature live music, theatre and other performance art. If it's arts related, chances are you can see it here.
Dining
According to the
Greater Madison Convention & Visitor Bureau,
Madison has more
restaurants per capita than any other American city. In Downtown alone, a gamut of ethnic foods is available including: Asian, Italian, Mexican, European, Seafood and good old American pub food at one of the many
Madison area
micro-breweries. If you’re into consuming vast amounts of great food,
Madison certainly has what you’re looking for.
Sports & Recreation
The outdoor experience in
Madison has been likened to dog heaven, except for humans. Nestled among four lakes,
Lake Monona,
Lake Mendota,
Lake Wingra and
Lake Waubesa, Madison has hundreds of miles of trails that provide year-round sporting opportunities, Madison has a sanctuary of nature-laden outdoor activities that can be touched by other cities. Located on the south
shore of
Lake Wingra, the
Arboretum has easily accessible wooded trails to enjoy recreational activities surrounded by nature.
Biking, Hiking, Golf, Skiing and a plethora of water sports are all available, within arms reach. Not into actually participating yourself? Not to worry, we’ve got plenty of spectator friendly sports too. The
Big-Ten University of Wisconsin Badgers have year-round competitive events for the best of fanatics. As stated above, UW is no wimpy liberal arts school either—the Badgers have shown their competitive edge at numerous national forums.
The
Madison Mallards can provide a nice break too—the Mallards are
Madison’s own Minor league collegiate baseball team—perfect for those warm summer nights.
Education
Madison’s most prominent school is
The University of Wisconsin. With over 40,000 enrolled students, UW has something for everyone. Oh, and they’re good at it too. "U.S. News and World Report" ranked 70 of the UW’s program areas in the top 10 in their field nationwide and is the country's 7th ranked public university. The
University of Wisconsin offers over 5,100 courses in more than 160 study areas.
Madison also offers studies at several private and technical colleges throughout the greater
Madison area.
