Topic: Visits to Other Q&B Offices - All Summer Associates (August 5, 2008)

Chicago Day, Madison Day, and Milwaukee Day were easily some of the best days this summer with Chicago Day, of course, being the best.  It was really cool to get to see a whole new city and to take a look at the different offices.  However, my favorite part was just getting to know the other summer associates from the other offices.  We all seemed to get along great and to have a lot in common.  And it is nice to know that I will have friends in other offices in the future.  All of the attorneys always say that having friends in the other offices is really an invaluable resource.  I cannot wait now until QBU1 so I can reconnect and catch up on things with everyone.

Chicago Day, Madison Day, and Milwaukee Day were great ways to get to know attorneys and summer associates in the other offices.  As practicing attorneys, we will need to be able to work not only with colleagues in our own offices, but also with attorneys from Q&B's other offices.  Devoting three days to getting to know the respective Midwest offices was a good way to build the foundation of those relationships.  And having some good meals and fun activities didn't hurt either.

(View of the city from the Odyssey Lunch Cruise.)

I really enjoyed visiting the other Midwest offices.  On Chicago day we were privileged to take a lakeshore cruise on the Odyssey and were able to take in the beautiful Chicago skyline.  On Madison day we were able to attend a lunch and listen to a member of the Green Bay Packer's organization discuss what it's like to work in the NFL.  We also participated in a mock trial with the Summer Associates of the other Midwest offices, with some partners from the Madison office presiding as Judges.  Both visits were a great experience to learn more about each city, but more importantly, to meet the other Summer Associates in our class and more Q&B attorneys.

In order for the summer associates from different offices to get to know each other, Q&B arranges a day for everyone in each of its Midwest cities: Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago.  The days in Milwaukee and Madison involved both training and fun, and our time in Chicago was just fun.  Over the course of these days together, it was obvious that all of the summers got to know each other better.  Because the Chicago office has a small summer class (there are only three of us) it was fun to get to know a larger group of people who will hopefully be my colleagues in the future.

(Milwaukee Summer Associates.)

Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago Days provided a nice glimpse different Q&B offices, and we also got to participate in some fun activities, such as a tour of MillerCoors in Milwaukee and a lunch lake cruise in Chicago.  The best part, though, was the mock negotiation and trial.  We first went through a negotiation workshop in Milwaukee.  Afterward, we broke up into teams to negotiate a "contract."  The "agreement" later broke down, and the teams ended up in court--in a mock trial in Madison in a real courtroom.

I really enjoyed the events that allowed me to get to know the summer associates at Quarles' other offices.  The events were always well-planned with a variety of activities and workshops.
