Presentation Overview
According to the Department of Justice, 1 out of every 32 adults has a criminal record and resume fraud is rampant. The internet and low-cost background check services make it easier than ever for employers to screen job applicants’ criminal records and their past work history. Employers must proceed with caution, as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has just issued new guidance on the use of criminal background checks in the hiring process. To stay ahead of the curve, there has never been a better time for HR professionals to revisit their procedures for conducting background checks. Implementing best practices in line with the EEOC guidance, Fair Credit Reporting Act requirements, Wisconsin Caregiver Background Law for regulated entities, Wisconsin CCAP and Department of Justice searches, and national databases will help employers defeat discrimination and other claims filed by unsuccessful job applicants. This seminar is designed to provide practical, common-sense solutions for employers including what to include in a model background check policy.
