Wellness at Quarles & Brady
We have created a culture of wellness in the Firm that increases employee satisfaction and productivity, and has resulted in measurable improvement in our employees' health and long-term medical costs. We have accomplished this result through a robust website dedicated to employee wellness and through ongoing educational e-mails, lunch n' learn programs, individual and team-based challenges, themed walks, health fairs, and onsite screenings and flu shots. We also partner with third-party organizations for disease management and employee assistance services, and we subsidize the costs of health club membership, and other healthy-living expenses such as personal trainers, weight loss programs, exercise equipment purchases, smoking cessation and more.
We are pleased to report that our effort are paying off. Our last year-end report showed:
- A substantial increase in the number of participants now considered "low risk", meaning they now have two or less health risk factors in their lifestyles, and we have noted a correlating drop in the number of people considered "high risk."
- A drop in worker's compensation claims and the use of sick time among non-exempt staff.
- A substantial improvement in fully insured health insurance renewals over the last few years, from double digit, to low single digit increases.
