Presentation Overview
In the news and in your office, the federal government has been busy changing the rules and policies for employers in the area of immigration. The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security has pursued a policy shift, from investigating and arresting undocumented employees to auditing, investigating and arresting employers who violate the rules; the Immigration Service has introduced a Form I-9 manual; and the federal government and an increasing number of states are requiring the use of E-Verify to confirm the work authorization of employees in some situations. All this is occurring at a time of steady pressure in the workplace, due to economic conditions. Since all employees must complete the Form I-9 and all employers are subject to these regulations, the seminar will be geared toward all employers, not just those who have a large number of foreign nationals working for them.
Experienced Q&B immigration attorneys will provide the latest guidance on what you and your Human Resources staff should know and what your business should do to remain compliant. We will suggest usable I-9 systems and provide tips to help prevent the top ten biggest mistakes employers make in the I-9 process, help you decide whether E-Verify is right for you and how to use it, and help you prepare for a potential workplace investigation. Finally, with the current economic pressure, many employers have questions when it comes to lay-offs and hirings of non-US citizens who may require a visa or green card. We will address these issues and more.
