Foreign Relations

We also have longstanding relationships with select foreign law firms and other professional organizations in numerous countries around the world and can enlist their support when needed or appropriate.

Europe/German Desk

Several of our partners—Sarah AmesDavid Braun, and Andre Fiebig—have longstanding experience in representing European companies, especially those in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. All are fluent in German and actively involved with the German, Austrian, and Swiss chambers of commerce. Collectively, they have over 50 years of experience representing over 100 companies and individuals from those jurisdictions in a wide variety of legal matters in the United States, including in the fields of corporate, commercial, employment, M&A, joint ventures, antitrust, product liability, technology, licensing, visas, and immigration law. They also have a network of local law firms in Europe with which they actively cooperate on a wide range of commercial matters for our U.S.-based clients. All have studied law in Germany and are frequently invited as speakers on cross-border legal topics.

Far East/China Desk

Led by our partner Thomas Stiebel, Quarles & Brady supports U.S.-based companies with business transactions in the Far East/China, and companies from the Far East/China seeking to enter the U.S. market. We help our clients understand the legal and political aspects of commerce in the Far East/China and guide them through the obstacles of doing business there. In China, we have an established network that includes investment banks, private equity firms, local law firms, and accounting firms. Additional significant contacts include state and private organizations, as well as governmental leaders, in various business centers such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chong Qing, and the Sichuan province.

Canada & Mexico/Latin America

Our interdisciplinary practice in Canada, Mexico, and the rest of Latin America provides a full range of legal services to our U.S. clients doing business in the Canada or Latin America region and to our foreign clients doing business in the United States. Many of our lawyers in the practice were born in Latin America or Canada, and others have lived, studied, or practiced in the region. Our attorneys understand the complexities and subtleties of cross-border transactions involving the region and are well-equipped to assist our clients to reduce risks and maximize opportunities. Our transactional and litigation attorneys work together to provide our clients a comprehensive legal strategy and a global perspective in the region.
