Jean Baker practices in the area of patent, trademark and copyright law, with experience in drafting and prosecuting chemical and biotechnological patent applications and patentability and infringement opinions. Her technical background includes practical experience in molecular biology, microbiology and chemistry.

Dr. Baker has special expertise in the fields of transgenic micro-organisms, plants, and animals and recombinant DNA techniques, including production and use of modified proteins. She has drafted and prosecuted many patent applications drawn to nucleic acid assays and detection methods and to model systems for drug testing. Because of specific client portfolios, Dr. Baker has drafted and prosecuted portfolios of multiple patents involving biofilms, blood chemistry, stem cell biology, chemotherapeutics and use of micro-arrays. Her recent experience includes:

• Representation of numerous University and educational institution clients in biotechnology patent-related matters.

• Providing Intellectual Property advice to businesses depending on protection of nascent technology.

• Serving as the Chairperson of the State Bar Intellectual Property Section and Adjunct Professor of Patent Law for Marquette University.
