Professional Experience
Lansing “Lanse” Scriven is a partner in the Commercial Litigation group. Mr. Scriven concentrates his practice in the area of business litigation, handling a diverse range of business disputes. The clients he has represented range from individual shareholders of closely-held corporations in “business divorces” to large financial institutions. A former federal appellate law clerk, Mr. Scriven also has substantial experience in all phases of appellate litigation.
Mr. Scriven’s representative engagements include:
- Defending a start-up dental and physician referral management company in a claim for permanent injunctive relief based on alleged trade secret violations, and for damages under the federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.
- Defending a claim against a company employee brought by a leading credit card processing company for injunctive relief and alleged trade secret violations, and negotiating dismissal of the suit following a temporary injunction hearing with no damages, injunctive relief, or admissions of liability.
- Representing a general contractor in a claim on a performance bond following a subcontractor’s default and settling the case for 100% of the penal sum of the bond shortly before trial.
- Representing contractors and subcontractors throughout the State of Florida in various bid protests.
- Representing a major U.S. furniture retailer in litigation in state and federal courts and in arbitration proceedings concerning commissions and fees allegedly due under various dealer contracts.
- Representing a shareholder in a protracted lawsuit among shareholders in a closely-held corporation involving claims of breach of fiduciary duty, self-dealing, and breach of contract.
- Representing a general contractor in a claim against a county government involving multiple change orders and impact claims arising out of the construction of a wastewater treatment plant.
- Representing various contractors and subcontractors in administrative proceedings before county and municipal governments throughout the State of Florida relating to achievement of W/MBE participation goals.
