Pro Bono / Community Service

Leila dedicates a large portion of her time and energy to pro bono matters and community service. In addition to her role as chair of the Quarles Cares program in the Milwaukee office, her efforts include

  • representation of a client in an action divorce and name change against an abusive husband of 30 years;
  • mediation negotiation for a 1983 civil rights claim involving an illegal stop and excessive force by a police officer;
  • representation of a father to obtain child visitation and achieve adjustments on child-support payments;
  • working as part of a team on an attempt to appeal a Florida client's death sentence on the basis of inadequate representation and constitutional grounds;
  • serving as a volunteer for Quarles & Brady's Lawyer for a Day Domestic Violence clinic, where she represents victims of abuse in obtaining injunctions against abusers;
  • serving as a volunteer for the firm's Truancy Court clinic; and
  • two years of service on Centro Legal's planning committee for its annual gala fundraiser (Centro Legal offers pro bono legal services in Milwaukee, focusing on family law and domestic abuse issues).
