Blog: Quarles Announces DEA Chronicles Blog03/19/13
MILWAUKEE, WIS. - The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP has announced its creation of a new blog -- DEA Chronicles -- focusing on DEA compliance.
Former DEA attorneys Larry Cote and Linden Barber will provide insight into emerging issues from DEA compliance and scheduling actions to suspicious order reports and more. To visit and subscribe to our blog, please click here: http://deachronicles.quarles.com/
"DEA compliance is complex and not without substantial risks," said Cote and Barber. "DEA registrants play a critical role in meeting legitimate medical demand while preventing diversion and abuse of pharmaceutical controlled substances. We are very excited to have this platform to share insights and engage in conversations that will help DEA registrants balance their obligations."
Cote is a partner in the Health Law Group in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. Prior to joining the firm, he served as the Associate Chief Counsel for the Drug Enforcement Administration's ("DEA") Diversion and Regulatory Litigation Section. He advised the DEA on issues related to the diversion of legally produced controlled substances and listed chemicals into illegitimate channels, managed attorneys responsible for representing the DEA in administrative hearings regarding the revocation or denial of DEA registrations in various capacities, advised federal and state law enforcement and regulatory agencies and prosecutors on a wide range of investigative and prosecutorial topics arising under the Controlled Substances Act, and provided legal advice on policy issues which impacted on the DEA's enforcement authority under the Controlled Substances Act. Cote received his law degree from the Albany Law School of Union University and his undergraduate degree from Union College.
Barber is the Director of DEA Compliance Operations in the firm's Health Law Practice Group in Chicago. Prior to joining the firm, he served for 11 years in a variety of positions at the Drug Enforcement Administration. He was an attorney in the Diversion Regulatory and Policy Section, the Associate Chief Counsel for the Diversion Litigation Section from 2006-2010, and, most recently, piloted DEA's Regional Diversion Counsel program as the first DEA attorney assigned to a field office to handle cases involving DEA registrants. Prior to joining DEA, Barber was an active duty Army Judge Advocate for eight years. He received his law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School and his undergraduate degree from Tennessee Temple University.
