Leezie Kim Appointed to Phoenix Aviation Advisory Board12/19/12
PHOENIX, ARIZ. - The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP announced that Leezie Kim, a partner in the firm's Phoenix office, has been appointed by Mayor Greg Stanton and the City Council to the Phoenix Aviation Advisory Board.
"I am honored to be appointed to the Aviation Advisory Board," said Kim. "The airport is an economic engine for Phoenix. At the same time, it is a mix of complex logistics, businesses, safety issues, international matters, law enforcement interactions and diplomacy opportunities. I'm grateful for this opportunity to be part of such an amazing team and hope I will be able to use my experience working at the Department of Homeland Security on aviation safety and international port of entry issues to contribute to the airport and the city."
The Phoenix Aviation Advisory Board is made up of nine members appointed by the Mayor and City Council to four year terms. The Board meets monthly to review airport policies and make recommendations to the City Council on major airport projects, concession contracts and leases for all three City of Phoenix owned and operated airports: Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Phoenix Deer Valley Airport and Phoenix Goodyear Airport.
Kim is a partner in the Corporate Services Group. Her practice focuses on helping clients navigate the laws of national security and international business transactions as well as healthcare and restaurant business transactions. She returned to the firm following four years of service as a White House appointee to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and as general counsel to Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano.
While serving as deputy general counsel for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security ("DHS") in Washington, D.C., Kim became involved with aviation security, border entry matters and customs issues at airports, including the federal response to the 2009 Christmas day airline underwear explosive attempt and the implementation of the new airport security procedures thereafter.
Kim earned her law degree from the University of Virginia and her undergraduate degree from Rice University.
