Quarles & Brady Selected to Receive National 2014 Beacon of Justice Award

News Release

MILWAUKEE, WIS. — The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP today announced that it has been selected to receive the 2014 Beacon of Justice Award from the National Legal Aid & Defender Association. This is the third time in five years that the firm has been chosen as a recipient of this award.

The Beacon of Justice honor is awarded to exceptional law firms that have devoted significant time and resources to creating and implementing innovative strategies to improve life outcomes for low-income individuals. This year, Quarles & Brady will be honored for its Lawyer for a Day Project at Milwaukee County’s Domestic Abuse Injunction Court. Through this program, Quarles provides an attorney, one day a week, to any domestic abuse victim who desires one. In the first year of the program, firm lawyers were referred 271 domestic abuse clients who otherwise would have been unrepresented. The firm is also being recognized for its role in the establishment of the Milwaukee Justice Center Mobile Legal Clinic, created in honor of Quarles long-time partner and firm Pro Bono Coordinator Mike Gonring, and funded by retired partners Frank Daily and Julianna Ebert. The award will be presented at the NLADA Exemplar Award Dinner on June 26 in Washington, D.C.

“Quarles is honored to once again receive the Beacon of Justice award,” said Mike Gonring. “We appreciate the time and effort our lawyers, paralegals and staff members invest in these programs to assist those in need of legal representation who otherwise could not afford it.”
