Patent Prosecution

Medical Imaging

In early 1980, Quarles became involved in, and continues to work with, drafting, prosecuting, and licensing patents related to medical imaging for technology transfer offices, including pioneering patents on velocity encoding and preset in MRI. Not only does Quarles understand the technical and patentability aspects of technology transfer related to medical imaging, but the firm has developed strategies to aid technology transfer offices in successfully licensing technologies to the oligopoly that controls the manufacture and sale of the major medical imaging devices. Quarles has extensive experience with negotiating master research agreements, sponsored research agreements, and licensing agreements and, when necessary, developing strategies for difficult negotiations that include the prospect of litigation.
