The answer depends on whether your employment is covered by the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Without going into great detail about what must be true in order for your employment to be FMLA protected, if it applies, and you are certified by your doctor to intermittently miss work due to your medical condition, it may be appropriate for your employer to temporarily transfer you to an alternative position for which you are qualified.
