Valerie is actively involved in the firm's pro bono efforts. Valerie has successfully represented pro bono clients in both state and federal court actions involving civil rights violations, tenant/landlord disputes, False Claims Act allegations, and municipal violations. She recently obtained a favorable decision from the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of a pro bono client following oral argument before the Court.
As a member of the firm’s Domestic Abuse injunction clinic, Valerie has successfully represented dozens of individuals seeking restraining orders against their abusers.
Valerie also serves as the firm’s point-person for the Clemency Project 2014, an initiative aimed at assisting non-violent drug offenders petition the Office of the Pardon Attorney for reduced sentences. As the firm’s coordinator for this effort, Valerie works with national representatives to place clients with volunteer attorneys within the firm who then screen clients for eligibility under the clemency criteria laid out by the U.S. Attorney General.
Valerie frequently volunteers for Legal Action of Wisconsin and the Volunteer Lawyers Project and received an award for “Outstanding Pro Bono Participation” from Legal Action in 2012.
