Careers at Quarles & Brady

Summer Associate Perspectives

Social Events

The social events show how Q&B is dedicated to its best resource: the people. It is very telling that Quarles makes a point for the summer associates to get to know many different attorneys and encourages everyone to meet us. Nearly once a week we put our work away and get away from the office to chat with people we may not always work with. My favorite events so far are either having lunch on Lake Michigan in the Milwaukee Art Museum or touring the Miller Brewery and meeting some of the attorneys at Miller Coors.

The social events this year have been the perfect opportunities to get to know the other summer associates as well as attorneys on a more personal level. The fun memories we have had make it more difficult to say bye as the program wraps up. Some of my favorite events have included the behind-the-scenes tour of the Field Museum, a night out at Flight Club, and the softball recreational league (despite our rough start at 0-2). The last couple of events are sure to be as fun and memorable as the others have been this year.

The social events this summer have been a blast. Whether it was exploring the city on the scavenger hunt or hanging out at attorneys' homes during the progressive dinner, it was great to get to know my fellow summers and the attorneys and their families outside of the office. I really appreciate the time Quarles takes to put together the social events because the events made the summer that much more fun!

The Madison Office has provided many opportunities to help us get to know the attorneys and other summer associates. While there are many events that are work related, there are also events that allow us to get to know the attorneys on a personal level, including a cheese curd crawl, Mallards game, Madison Forward game, escape room, and happy hours. I also had the opportunity to attend a couple social events with the Milwaukee summer associates, including a client facility tour and a Brewers game. Because the firm really focuses on working with attorneys across offices, these were nice opportunities to get to know people from a different office.

The program has done a great job of balancing social events to get to know the attorneys and fellow summer associates with meaningful work experience. This summer I have had the opportunity to go on a behind the scenes tour of the Field Museum, watch fireworks from the patio of the Shedd Aquarium, lose at miniature golf in Quarles conference center, and go to many lunches and informal happy hours amongst others. The social opportunities have already been top notch and they're not done yet (dinner on a rooftop next to Wrigley Field coming up next)!

The summer events put on by the Phoenix committee have been stellar, and it is clear that a lot of time and effort have been put into them. The trip up to Flagstaff to find cooler weather was a great opportunity to relax while also getting to spend a lot of quality time with attorneys from a variety of practice areas. Additionally, the baseball game early in the summer was the perfect chance to bond with the other summer associates. There have been other activities that have also been a blast, and I feel so grateful to have had so many opportunities to meet and interact with the wonderful attorneys at Quarles and Brady!

There was plenty of time this summer to relax, have fun, and get to know other attorneys and summer associates. We attended a Milwaukee Brewers game, semi-professional baseball and soccer games in Madison, an arcade bar, an escape room, and a relaxing evening at the Union Terrace on the lake, among others. Two attorneys also graciously opened their homes to our office for dinner parties, which were great chances to get to know people, and a lot of fun.

I have really enjoyed getting to know the Quarles family through various social events this summer. Getting to know everyone on a personal, rather than just a professional level, has really demonstrated how lucky I am to be a summer associate here. I have shared so many laughs and memorable moments with many attorneys here, and I am so impressed with how kind and considerate everyone is everywhere we go. The brewery tour was by far my favorite experience because everyone who came made it such an enjoyable time. It is sad that the summer is already coming to an end, and I am going to miss everyone here so much!

We have had a wide variety of social outings over the course of the summer. Some have been geared to meeting clients (tours at We Energies and MillerCoors), and others have been focused on meeting attorneys internally (drinks at the Iron Horse, Business Law Group Scavenger Hunt). All of the events have provided great opportunities to network and get to know Quarles attorneys in a less formal setting.

Coming into the summer I knew we had some social events on the calendar that looked like good opportunities to get to know people outside of the office. I never expected for these events to be so hilarious and competitive. Right from the start we had partners welcoming us into their homes, associates calling us with scavenger hunt tips, and so many chances to laugh, tell stories, and feel like we were part of the Quarles family. The events have been awesome to really get a feel for the culture of the Phoenix office and a natural way to see how our attorneys genuinely enjoy spending time together.

The social events in the Phoenix office have been both frequent and fun. We have done everything from a poker night at a partner's house to attending a Diamondback's game. The events that were the most memorable for me were the scavenger hunt and the day trip. The scavenger hunt was our first big event and was a great opportunity to get to know the attorneys and summer associates as we raced around the city in limousines. On the day trip, we made the short road trip to Flagstaff, Arizona. We toured the city and its restaurants before ending the trip with a dinner overlooking the mountains. All of the social events have been a great opportunity to get to know the attorneys and other summer associates in a more casual setting.

This summer the Indianapolis office planned a number of Summer Associate social events. From impromptu happy hours to pool parties, each event helped me get to know the attorneys in the office. I especially enjoyed Axe Throwing and riding around Indianapolis on the Pickled Peddler. Both aforementioned events were a blast, and pushed me out of my comfort zone. The entire office had a great time, and an attorney even printed out the pictures from those two events and hung them in my office. The social events helped me form lasting relationships with my co-workers, and made me feel at home at Quarles & Brady.
