Development & Evaluation

At the end of your first year, you will begin to work on your ADP. What is an ADP, you ask? An Afternoon Dance Party? No, it’s an Associate Development Plan. In developing your ADP, you will work as a team with your mentor or another senior attorney to develop goals for enhancing your skills in your chosen area of law, and your client development skills. You might include particular substantive seminars, contemplated legal articles, seminars or speeches, particular avenues for developing marketing skills — virtually any professional activity consistent with reaching your career goals might show up on your individual plan. Each year, with guidance from your colleagues, you will refine your plan to reflect your changing and growing goals and evaluate whether you have met your goals from the previous year.

Associates love feedback, right? Or at least they think they love feedback until they get it. Like it or not, you will also receive regular feedback. Feedback is a good thing, whether or not it feels good at the time. Formal evaluations are held twice each year during your first two years and annually from your third year until you are eligible to become a partner.
