Kate Helmich, Ph.D., is a Patent Agent in the firm's Intellectual Property Group. Kate focuses her practice on assisting clients in the area of intellectual property, assisting patent practitioners with preparing and prosecuting domestic and foreign patent applications, and conducting patent searches.
Kate's core technical experience is in the fields of biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, and biofuels. Prior to her career as a patent engineer, Kate held an internship with the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation working with their ambassador program and assisting in patentability and prior art searches. During her graduate career at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, Kate studied the enzymology and structural biology of enzymes involved in the biosynthesis and biodegradation of plant cell wall lignin as part of the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center. She also has a broad range of experiences in other technical areas of the life sciences and welcomes new challenges and opportunities.
