Lawyer Spotlight: Nick Meza
How many states or countries have you lived in?
I was born and raised in Arizona and I have lived here my whole life. However, I did spend roughly 6 months studying Spanish in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
What is your favorite drink?
Water or an ice cold IPA.
What is your favorite month?
October -- the weather in Phoenix is perfect, football is in full swing, and MLB playoffs begin.
What inspires you?
My parents, who are the hardest working people I've ever known.
If you chose a quote to live by, what would it be?
Don't count the days, make the days count. -Muhammad Ali
What is your greatest accomplishment?
What has been your most embarrassing experience at Q&B?
Emailing the entire Phoenix office (instead of my group) at 6am to let them know I was sick and would be working from home that day. While still sick, I kept a promise to my eldest son and took him to his first Diamondbacks baseball game later that evening. I ended up running into folks from the office who were quick to remind me about my office-wide email.
What experience at Q&B has been the most fun?
Every day I get to work with great people who enjoy a challenge and I learn something new every day (no matter how long I've practiced). What can be better than that?
What advice would you give to a law student?
Step out of your comfort zone and meet people. Be kind to everyone and maintain your network.
What is your greatest professional success?
There is no one single moment or success that I can point to. Rather, many small moments make up that success. For me, the greatest moments as an attorney occur when you see the difference we make for our clients. The icing on the cake is when we receive genuine praise and appreciation from clients for the hard work that we do.
What class should you have taken in law school?
Who has given you the best advice about practicing law and what was that advice?
All the partners in the health law group have given this sage advice at one time or another: Be responsive. Clients can go anywhere to get the right legal answer. But making them feel like they are your only client will set you apart from other attorneys.
What makes you laugh?
Watching my 2 year old make my 7 month old laugh.
What is the best thing about Q&B?
What do you do for fun?
Play with my two boys, cheer on all Arizona sports team (excluding ASU), and hunting, camping, fishing, and hiking in Arizona's many beautiful remote areas.
What is great about working in (your city)?
Despite being the 5th largest city in the country, Phoenix is a relatively small legal market. This makes practicing in the Valley feel like you are practicing in a small town while representing Fortune 10 companies.
