Margaret Robinson, Ph.D., Patent Scientist

Biography

As a patent scientist, Margaret Robinson, Ph.D., aids intellectual property clients and the attorney team in preparing and prosecuting patent applications with a focus on biotechnology and chemistry.

Margaret’s core technical expertise lies at the nexus of analytical chemistry, biotechnology, and materials science. She has nine years of experience as a postgraduate research scientist, including four years dedicated to prototyping next-generation spectroscopic bioanalytical instrumentation in industry.

As a graduate student, Margaret worked in the Center for Sustainable Nanotechnology where she developed methods for background-free imaging of nanomaterials in complex biological environments. She was also independently awarded a seed grant for the synthesis and development of novel nanoparticles to serve as optical probes.

Margaret gained a broad scientific background through several undergraduate internships. At the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in conjunction with the Colorado Center for Biorefining and Biofuel, she worked on a high-throughput, non-destructive method for the characterization of algal lipid content for biofuel production. At a medical imaging company, Margaret performed multistep syntheses of metabolites for hepatocyte studies of an in-development contrast imaging agent. Finally, as an undergraduate researcher at Michigan State University, she synthesized novel inorganic/organic hybrid oxide materials and coordination polymers.
