Craig J. O’Loughlin quoted in article “Able Aerospace bans smoking even off the job”

Phoenix Business Journal

Following is an excerpt:

You better not ‘smoke ‘em if you got ‘em’ if you work for Lee Benson.

Benson is CEO and principal owner of Able Aerospace Services, and he runs the aerospace supply chain company with his own unique playbook.

Benson does not allow workers to smoke — even off the job — saying it saves the company between $750,000 and $1 million annually in health insurance costs.

Arizona is an at-will employment state giving employers legal latitude to sack workers.

“In Arizona, there are no laws that prohibit an employer from terminating an employee for smoking, on or off duty,” said Craig O’Loughlin, an attorney with the Quarles & Brady LLP law firm in Phoenix.
