Fred Gants Receives Literacy Network Award at Growing Through Literacy Breakfast 2019

Madison — The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP today announced that Fred Gants, a Partner in the firm's Labor & Employment practice group, has received the Literacy Network Award for his Board leadership over the past five years culminating in a successful $3.1 million capital campaign to fund a new, larger facility and double the number of people served.

Founded in 1974, The Literacy Network is a nonprofit agency offering free classes and trained volunteer tutors to adults struggling with low-literacy in Dane County. The organization serves approximately 1,000 low-income adults each year and works to improve their skills in English language communications, reading comprehension, and use of information technology.

Gants represents companies in a variety of matters, including defense of discrimination complaints, employer counseling, traditional labor including collective bargaining and unfair labor practice charges, and representation on OSHA matters and citations. He has represented employers across the country in courts and before state and federal agencies, including the National Labor Relations Board and Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Gants holds a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Yale University and a Juris Doctor from University of Chicago Law School.

Gants received the Literacy Network Award at the Growing Through Literacy Breakfast held on November 13, 2019 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin.

Literacy Network is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in Madison, Wisconsin, made up of teachers, students, tutors, volunteers and donors all working together to improve adult literacy in Dane County. A wide variety of programs are offered to help adults improve their reading, writing and English skills so that they may better achieve goals specific to their needs: to read to their children or help with homework, to fill out a job application, to understand finances, or speak with a doctor about a health concern.
