Janine Landow-Esser Named One of OBABL’s Power 100 Advocates

CHICAGO, ILL. - Janine M. Landow-Esser, a Quarles & Brady partner in the firm's Chicago office, was named one of The Power 100 Advocates by On Being a Black Lawyer ("OBABL"). OBABL's leadership made these selections after carefully considering the recommendations of their Power 100 Honorees, some of the most influential black attorneys in the nation who were asked to nominate non-black attorneys that have been strong advocates for diversity in the legal profession. John W. Daniels Jr., chairman of Quarles & Brady LLP and a member of the Power 100, nominated Landow-Esser for her unwavering commitment to advancing diversity both within the firm and in the community.

"Quarles & Brady has made its commitment to diversity & inclusion a core firm value, and we've worked hard to give substance and meaning to that value," said Daniels. "We take it very seriously, and Janine has been instrumental in our success in this area."

"I am honored to be recognized by OBABL for my work to further diversity in the legal profession," said Landow-Esser. "As the demographics of the nation evolve and we increasingly work cross-border, it is essential that our firm reflect the diversity of our clients and that we are able to provide the wide spectrum of creative thinking that diversity of perspective allows."

Landow-Esser is a founding member of Quarles & Brady's Diversity & Inclusion Committee, which she has co-chaired with Daniels since 2008. In that role, she has led the firm's commitment to advance diverse and female attorneys through leadership, dedication, and vision regarding Quarles' strategic growth and diversity climate. Landow-Esser continues to push the firm's diversity initiatives further and aims to make Quarles a welcoming and respectful workplace for all of its employees. All Advocates will be honored at a reception on February 27 in Washington, D.C. and profiled in a OBABL's Power 100 Special Edition publication.

As co-chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, Landow-Esser takes an active leadership role in the firm's diverse attorney recruiting, retention, promotion and "Women in Leadership" programs, the former of which created and now drives minority scholarship, internship, and liaison initiatives. For her commitment to volunteer service and the cause of diversity, Landow-Esser recently received the President's Lifetime Volunteer Service Award in partnership with Keep Chicago Beautiful and was named to the 2012 "Chicago Women in Law: Making an Impact" list by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company. She also received Chicago United's 2011 Ambassador Award.

Landow-Esser concentrates her practice in environmental and OSHA law. She has extensive experience before state and federal agencies and administrative bodies, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ("EPA"), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration ("OSHA"), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Department of Energy ("DOE") in Washington D.C. and various state regulatory bodies throughout the U.S. Landow-Esser served as one of the United States' representatives to the International Energy Agency and was also the chair of the Environmental Law Committee of the Chicago Bar Association.
