Quarles & Brady "Drafts" Milwaukee Area Students as Part of Innovative Work Study Program

News Release

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP today announced that the firm's Milwaukee office is partnering with Cristo Rey Jesuit High School's Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP). The program provides students with the opportunity to develop practical professional skills as a supplement to their academic learning.

The first of its kind in the state of Wisconsin, Cristo Rey is located in West Milwaukee and provides a Catholic, college-preparatory education to students of all faiths and limited means. In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, all Cristo Rey students work with local companies or organizations, and ultimately graduate from high school with four years of work experience.

Quarles & Brady joined 22 other local employers at the Cristo Rey CWSP "Draft Day" at the school on Friday, July 24. Katie Maloney Perhach, Milwaukee office managing partner, and Darlene M. Austin, director of employee relations, diversity, and corporate social responsibility, represented Quarles & Brady at the event and welcomed the four incoming freshman the firm will employ during the 2015/2016 school year. The event was a culmination of an intensive, four-week business training camp the students attended. Each student was matched based on the companies' needs, as well as the students' interests and skills.

"Quarles & Brady is extremely honored to be a part of this unique opportunity for some of Milwaukee's most deserving students," said Perhach. "We are looking forward to giving our students a rewarding and memorable experience during their time at the firm."

The firm's participation in this initiative is spearheaded by the Quarles Cares program, which supports charities and causes chosen by the attorneys and staff who work in each respective office. Primary areas of focus are hunger and education. James D. Friedman, a partner with Quarles & Brady, introduced the firm to the school and its CWSP program. Friedman was recently elected to the school's board of directors.
