Quarles Rated in 2013 Annual Corporate Equality Index11/16/12
MILWAULKEE, WIS. - The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP announced that it achieved an 85 percent rating in the Human Rights Campaign ("HRC") Foundation's 2013 Corporate Equality Index ("CEI").
Earlier in the year, Quarles & Brady also received the 2012 Corporate Equality Award from HRC for being a consistent supporter of the HRC and creating internal programs and policies specifically designed to address the needs of their LGBT employees. Nicole Stanton, a partner in the firm's Phoenix office also received the 2012 Equality Award from HRC for being a supporter and advocate of gay rights and the LGBT community.
The HRC's CEI is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices related to LGBT employees. Over the past 11 years, the CEI has become the gold standard for corporate policies and practices related to LGBT employees and their families. The CEI rates companies on 40 such policies and practices. A total of 889 businesses have been rated in the 2013 CEI, including the entire Fortune 500. This year a record 293 of the Fortune 500-ranked businesses have an official CEI rating, with the other 201 rated based upon publicly-available data.
Specific criteria for evaluation included whether employers have a written nondiscrimination policy and training covering sexual orientation and gender identity; provide insurance that covers transgender-related treatments; support same-sex partners of employees with health insurance, bereavement and family leave policies; have LGBT employee groups; engage in appropriate and respectful advertising to the community; contribute to community organizations; and decline to engage in any activities that would undermine the goal of equal rights for LGBT people.
"We are thrilled to once again be recognized by HRC's Corporate Equality Index," said John W. Daniels Jr., chairman of Quarles & Brady LLP. "Being recognized consistently throughout the years confirms that we are successfully fulfilling our mission to support the LGBT community. As a firm, we are committed to continuously incorporating diversity in the workplace through programs and policies."
