The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleged that a Rent-A-Center district manager instructed the store manager to fire Megan Kerr after he learned that Kerr was transitioning. The company argued that Kerr was let go because she used a delivery vehicle to make a personal furniture delivery.

“Rent-A-Center takes discrimination issues seriously and has the right policies in place,” Stephanie Quincy, an attorney at Quarles & Brady who represented the company, told Bloomberg Law. “The jury found that there was no discrimination. Ms. Kerr worked there as a male and continued to work there as she transitioned to a female.”
