Business Law Training: Protecting Trade Secrets, Where Do They Go When Employees Leave, and How to Get Them Back Effectively and Efficiently

Presentation Overview: Reclaiming trade secrets stolen by a departing employee is often an intimidating prospect because trade secrets, themselves, can be a somewhat ambiguous concept. What does the law recognize as a trade secret? What methods do departing employees most commonly use to steal trade secrets, and how can employers quickly learn when a breach has occurred? And how can employers most effectively protect those trade secrets from theft or, alternatively, quickly control the damage when a breach occurs? Quarles and Brady attorneys Nicole Druckrey and Josh Fleming, members of the firm's Trade Secrets and Unfair Competition Team, will answer these questions by discussing the practical steps employers can take to protect their trade secrets-- careful precautions starting at the inception of the employment relationship, diligence and protective procedures to be utilized with departing employees, and an aggressive and pre-planned litigation strategy.
