District of New Jersey Grants Manscaped’s Motion to Dismiss Meritless Patent Claims Asserted by Skull Shaver

News Release

July 7, 2025 — On July 2, 2025, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey granted Manscaped, LLC’s motion to dismiss Skull Shaver’s complaint alleging that a Manscaped product infringed utility and design patents owned by Skull Shaver relating to personal shaving devices.

In granting the motion to dismiss, the court agreed with Manscaped’s assertions that Skull Shaver had failed to properly plead either infringement count, and in dismissing with prejudice Skull Shaver’s cause of action relating to design patent infringement, the court held that a side-by-side comparison of the asserted design patent and accused product made clear that “no ordinary observer could determine the shavers are substantially the same or at least a colorable imitation thereof.”

Manscaped was represented by Quarles’ Matthew Holohan, Lauren Bolcar and James J. Aquilina. The case is captioned Skull Shaver LLC v. Manscaped, LLC, Case No. 24-cv-10110-SDW-SDA (D.N.J.).
