Online Training for Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program Slated for Veterans Day

News Release

Quarles & Brady is honoring Veterans Day by hosting a free volunteer attorney training program for The Veterans Consortium (TVC) Pro Bono Program, which provides legal representation to veterans appealing denials of disability benefits before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

The training, led by TVC attorneys, is scheduled for November 11 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Central. Registration details can be found here. Attorneys do not need to be litigators to participate.

Attorneys participating in the training will learn how to help veterans with appeals involving a wide range of VA disability, educational assistance, and survivor benefit and pension benefit claims. Veterans come to TVC because a claim has been denied, or their disability compensation has been reduced or terminated.

Cases handled by volunteer attorneys typically are resolved in 50 hours or less and are reviewed for merit by TVC before being assigned.

“We’re proud to partner with The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program,” said Michael Levey, national pro bono partner at Quarles & Brady. “This is incredibly rewarding work because you can make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of veterans who have given so much to our country. I would strongly encourage any attorney looking for a worthy pro bono opportunity to participate in this training and learn more about the important work done by TVC.”

The training session will include opening remarks by Judge Michael P. Allen from the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and presentations by Gregory O. Block, clerk of the court for the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims; Judy Donegan, Esq., deputy executive director of TVC; and Courtney L. Smith, Esq., TVC’s senior director of volunteer outreach & education.
