Quarles & Brady Madison Office Receives State Bar Pro Bono Award
MADISON, Wis. — The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP today announced that its Madison office has been selected by the State Bar’s Legal Assistance Committee to receive the annual Pro Bono Award for a Law Firm or Organization. This award recognizes the firm's commitment to providing a variety of high quality pro bono legal services.
The Madison office created a number of ways for its attorneys to help those in need in its community. Associate Leah McNeely and Partner Emily Feinstein created and staffed two different programs to benefit families affected by domestic violence. Ms. McNeely organized the Legal Intervention for Nonviolence Clinic, which provides pro bono legal advice on a variety of issues to clients who are experiencing or have experienced domestic violence. Ms. Feinstein recruited attorneys from Quarles & Brady and in the community to help victims of intimate partner violence obtain injunctions against their abusers. Attorneys in the Madison office also help to obtain court-ordered guardianships for low-income adults with disabilities referred by Dane County Department of Human Services. In addition to this work, our attorneys are also helping with a national clemency project; assisting refugees with asylum petitions; and staffing a legal clinic to help clients of the Urban League.
In addition, Madison office attorneys provided over 2300 hours of pro bono services in fiscal year 2015 to assist low income individuals in Dane County. Fourteen attorneys in the Madison office qualified for the 2015 Wisconsin Pro Bono Honor Society by providing at least 50 hours of pro bono service to benefit low income clients.
"We are extremely honored to receive this award from the State Bar," said Ave Bie, managing partner of the Madison office. "We take pride in our legal work, especially our pro bono efforts, and we will continue to help the Dane County community and those throughout the state of Wisconsin who need legal aid and can't afford it."
The award will be presented during the Member Recognition Celebration at the State Bar’s Annual Meeting in Green Bay on Thursday, June 16, 2016.
