General intellectual property guidance
Rachel Ackerman focuses on domestic and international patent portfolio growth and management. She assists with the preparation and prosecution of patents and has experience drafting comprehensive patentability reports as well as performing in-depth research for inventors.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Rachel worked as a project engineer and developed CAD designs of room layouts, as-builts, electrical designs and piping plans. She has also drafted and implemented preventative maintenance plans for climate control and instrumentation systems. Rachel also performed mechanical tests to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of medical devices.
During law school, Rachel was a judicial extern for Judge Thomas M. Durkin and Franklin U. Valderrama of the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Illinois. Rachel was also a legal extern for a research hospital. She also gained experience in patent prosecution and IP litigation at numerous other firms.
