Research Institutions

Key Services

The Research Institutions Team provides an array of industry-specific services:

Technology Transfer. Helping move new innovations from the lab to the market is one of the things we do best.

Services to Investment Offices. Helping creating investment vehicles for the advancement of technology is another key capability of ours.

Tax-Exempt Services. Nonprofit institutions are some of the most active innovators on the planet, and we know how to help them succeed.

Immigration. Quarles has provided immigration/naturalization law services since the early 1970s to help clients—including many research institutions and individuals joining research institutions—wade through applicable laws and regulations to ensure an expeditious and smooth placement.

Real Estate. This is a salient component of every research institution’s needs. Our real estate team has championed all aspects of real estate and development matters for a broad range of research institutions. We understand the diversity of stakeholders that can be involved in new institutional developments and how to shepherd the process to success.

Labor & Employment. Our attorneys have represented research institutions for many years, advising management on personnel matters and policies with an eye toward the special circumstances that can be present in many research institutions, such as individuals with tenure, public union employees, state and federal employees, and state and federal funding.

Litigation. Our attorneys have experience representing research institutions across the country on an array of legal areas. For example, our attorneys have considerable experience trying intellectual property cases on behalf of research institutions in federal district courts.
