Biography
Thomas Keating, Ph.D., is an experienced patent attorney who finds solutions to complex intellectual property issues in the medical device, biotechnology, software, electrical, and mechanical fields.
As a patent attorney, he has:
- Developed and managed U.S. and foreign patent portfolios in medical device, biotechnology, software, electrical, and mechanical arts
- Counseled clients including Fortune 500 companies, start-ups, and university tech transfer offices to identify inventions, develop comprehensive IP strategies, and manage budgets
- Prepared patentability and infringement opinions, freedom-to-operate/clearance analyses
- Researched and conducted post-grant proceedings including IPRs, interferences, and ex parte reexaminations
- Built portfolio of patents for university client based on work of leading faculty member’s cardiac electrophysiology research
- Strategically built patent portfolio for medical device company covering key features of implantable spinal neurostimulator system for medical device manufacturer
- Developed and managed multifamily patent portfolio covering bioluminescent protein product line for midsized biotechnology company
