News Release

Madison — The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP and Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative (RWHC) are proud to announce the winners of their sixth annual joint Community Engagement Award. The first-place $5,000 grant was awarded to Aspirus Medford Hospital & Clinics in Medford, Wis. The honorable mention $1,000 grant went to Stoughton Health in Stoughton, Wis. The awards are provided by Quarles & Brady.

RWHC is a cooperative of 43 rural acute, general medical-surgical hospitals throughout Wisconsin. The award recognizes two RWHC member hospitals demonstrating excellence in strengthening community health and wellness partnerships.

“Rural hospitals in Wisconsin are doing critical work in partnering with their communities to improve mental health and encourage healthy lifestyles for members of the community,” said Tim Size, executive director of RWHC. “It is a true privilege to once again reward the healthcare organizations that are making a meaningful difference in their communities.”

Aspirus Medford Hospital & Clinics has been recognized for the “CARES Model” that is focused on mental health counseling for the Medford Area Public School District, Aspirus Medford Hospital & Clinics and Counselling Connection LLC. The CARES Model acknowledges the social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs of students through preventive and intervention methods to allow for better success in school, at home, and in life.

Stoughton Health was honored for multiple community efforts involving a COVID-19 task force to help the community navigate through the pandemic, prevention of youth substance misuse and change strategies, addressing mental health issues, creating opportunities for people to be healthy, and more. Stoughton Health continues to be an important leader in the community and will continue to partner with other organizations in order to establish a culture focused on health and wellbeing.

“Quarles & Brady is very proud to support the Community Engagement Award,” said Sarah E. Coyne, a Health Law partner in the firm’s Madison office. “Selecting the winners each year is incredibly difficult because so many of RWHC’s members are demonstrating great leadership in their communities. We’re pleased to do our part to recognize the valuable work they do.”
