Lauren N. McComis, Associate


Lauren McComis focuses her practice on patent prosecution for clients with national and international patent portfolios. She has significant experience with applications both in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and filings under the Patent Cooperative Treaty.  In particular, she has experience drafting software-related patent applications to strategically combat subject matter eligibility concerns under 35 U.S.C. § 101.

Lauren also conducts design analysis, provides clearance and patentability opinions, analyzes infringement risks for new products, and assesses invalidity issues and negotiates software license agreements and contracts.

Utilizing her technical training as an electrical and computer engineer, she adds practical value for innovators of electrical and computer technologies, including computer software and hardware technologies. She has developed technical knowledge in the areas of:

  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Internet of Things (IoT) systems and devices
  • Virtual and augmented reality systems, including for public safety command and control
  • Wireless communications systems and devices, including cellular (LTE), land mobile radio (LMR), and converged technologies
  • Industrial machinery control systems, including RFID technology and near-field communications
  • Imaging systems and applications, including computed tomography and radiographic image creation, analysis, and management
  • Productivity and messaging software and services
  • Cryptographic and security applications
  • Building security and monitoring systems
  • Medical devices and systems, including ophthalmic surgical devices
  • Web-based applications and business methods
  • Vehicle electronics and vehicle control systems and software, including engine control systems, exhaust fluid systems, autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicle, telematics, and user experience technologies
